8-Year-Old All-Stars Battle Back to Beat Blackhawk, 13-7

DARLINGTON TWP– The Hopewell 8-Year-Old All-Star team had a challenging game as they started their second All-Star tournament of the summer.

The Vikings team traveled up 376 to take on host Blackhawk in the Blackhawk All-Star Tournament.

Things didn’t look good for Hopewell as they fell behind 5-0 after 3 innings. But the Viking bats came alive in the 4th inning and never cooled down as they scored a combined 13 runs in the last 3 innings to defeat Blackhawk, 13-7.

The 13 runs are what jump out at you but credit the Hopewell defense for allowing only 2 runs in the final 3 innings.

Hopewell totaled 25 hits tonight as 6 players collected 3 hits apiece- Grayden McNally, Coleson Orie, Brody Tournay, August Arostegul, Mason Thumm and Harper Lavia.

The 13 Hopewell RBIs were collected by Orie (2), Tournay (2), Arostegul (2), Harper Lavia (2), Obie DeCanio (2), McNally (1), Trent Michael (1) and Cam Winiarski (1).

GAME RECAP-
-Hopewell trailed 6-3 entering the Top of the 5th inning but the team responded with 10 runs in the last 2 innings to win it.

*With the bases loaded and 0 outs, Orie singled to center to drive in Colton Eiler. Next up, Michael came through with an infield single to score McNally and Hopewell only trailed by a run. The hitting continued as Tournay hit a line drive double to left field, which brought in Orie and Declan Rinaldi. Hopewell took their first lead, 7-6. The final run of the inning came in from an RBI single by Arostegul. Hopewell led 8-6.

*Hopewell played solid defense in the bottom of the inning to keep the lead. Harper Lavia recorded the first out as she fielded a grounder back to the mound. The next two outs came from ground outs to Hudson Lavia at 3rd base.

*Hopewell was able to add more runs in the 6th inning. With 2 on and 0 out, Harper Lavia hit a line drive single, which scored her brother, Hudson. Next up, DeCanio hit a hard RBI single to right field scoring Thumm and Winiarski. The final two runs would score on RBI singles by McNally and Orie to give Hopewell a 13-6 lead.

This team will return to the field tomorrow afternoon at 3:15 PM as they face a tough test against Avonworth.
