The Hopewell HS Boys soccer team came out strong in their scrimmage on Monday against Freedom earning a 4-2 win.

The Vikings got on the scoreboard early as just two minutes into the match, John Sakson opened the scoring with his first goal of the season.

However, Freedom quickly responded, evening the game within the first 10 minutes of the game.

Hopewell continued pressuring the Freedom net, including two close range shots from Quincy Sannan, both rattling off the crossbar. The game went into halftime tied at 1-1.

Early in the second half, Freedom capitalized on a free kick following a foul to take a 2-1 lead, but Hopewell had an answer.

The Vikings answered when Tommy Armour’s shot deflected off the post, and Bryce Ray was there to finish, trying the game 2-2.

Coach Richter used the scrimmage to experiment with different lineups, and the adjustments paid off as Sakson fed a pass to Armour for his second goal of the match. Hopewell now led 3-2.

Hopewell was able to ice things as Bryce Ray set up Rocco Marcantonio, giving the Vikings a 2-goal lead.
