HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP– The Hopewell HS Softball team continue their strong early season play as the bats continue to stay hot and the Vikings pitching remains hard to hit. Let’s hope this continues when section play starts and the competition improves.
For the second straight game, the Lady Vikings blew out their opposition, as today they clubbed Rochester, 16-1. In their last game, Hopewell defeated Sto-Rox, 16-0.
Because of the score, today’s game only went 4 innings.
Kara Barkovich got the start for Hopewell and pitched 2 scoreless innings, striking out 5 of the 6 batters she faced. Allison Ramaley pitched the 3rd inning, giving up 1 run, while striking out one. Alana Covalt pitched the final inning, needing only 12 pitches and struck out the side.
Hopewell’s offense scored in all four innings, blowing the game open in the second inning with 11 runs.
Of their 10 hits collected, Covalt and Victoria Mann led the way with 3 hits apiece, while Barkovich, Ramaley, Marina Pinchotti and Tallulah Showrank each recorded one.
RBI collectors for Hopewell were Mann (3), Covalt (2), Barkovich (2), Ramaley (2), Dakota Roche (2), Isabella Katkich (1), Pinchotti (1) and Sophia Magistro (1).
With the win, Hopewell improves their record to 2-1 and will next play on Thursday at Deer Lakes.
