Congrats to the Hopewell Youth Wrestling team as they competed in their first match of the 2025-26 season on Sunday.

The Viking wresters competed against wrestlers from South Fayette, Fort Cherry, Ambridge, Montour, REC, Carlynton, Freedom and Burgettstown.

The Hopewell program had 48 wrestlers competing. Each wrestler was preassigned 2 matches against opponents of similar age, weight, and experience in hopes of having competitive matches.

Led by coaches Justin Majors, Mike Linza and Joe Obeldobel, the Hopewell wrestlers worked on transitioning moves from the practice mats to live wrestling.

There are no trophies or medals awarded at matches, rather wrestlers are challenged with working on their areas of weakness.

Next up for Hopewell Youth Wrestling is their Hopewell Viking Classic on December 27th and the First-Year Tournament on December 28th.

Best of luck Hopewell!!

It’s very exciting to see the progress and growth that wrestling has had in Hopewell. The future is certainly bright!
