Hopewell Boys Youth Basketball

Congratulations to HC Andrew Honess and the Hopewell 4th grade boys travel team for getting off to a tremendous start in the West Allegheny Tournament.

Hopewell was involved in two tight contests; both games went to overtime and came away with wins in both games.

Hopewell 13 South Fayette 11 and Hopewell 10 West Allegheny 8.

Hopewell vs. South Fayette game:
In the South Fayette game, Hopewell jumped out to a 6-0 lead before South Fayette responded with a 7-0 run of their own.

Jordan Peck led Hopewell in scoring with 4 points, while Quinn Zappas had 3 and Brody Benson, Jonah Honess and Prince Shell each had 2 apiece.

Hopewell vs. West Allegheny game:
The game against West Allegheny ended in dramatic fashion as Prince Shell made the game-winning shot.

It was fitting Shell made that shot as he led Hopewell in scoring with 6 points, while Quinn Zappas had 2 and Maverick Kuzcma also had 2 points.

This 4th grade squad will enter tomorrow as either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed.

The Hopewell 3rd Grade Boys basketball team wasn’t the only team from Hopewell competing in the West Allegheny Tournament today.

The Vikings 5th Grade travel team took on Keystone Oaks in their first-round game and came away with a convincing 22-2 win.

HC Craig Biller and his team were never challenged, and this allowed a lot of players to get involved, which is exciting. Leading 4-2, Hopewell went on a 18-0 run to end the game.

Landyn D led the Vikings in scoring with 6 points followed by Kellen Boehm and Bowen Smith each with 4 points. Sean Bain, Sullivan Smith, Breyson Hoth and Cooper Biller each collected a basket.

The Hopewell team also did a great job on the boards as Hoth and Logan Giering each pulled down 5 rebounds.

Later tonight, Hopewell will play their second game of the day as they take on Avonworth.

IMPERIAL– After picking up their first win of the 2025-26 travel season earlier this morning against Keystone Oaks, the Hopewell 3rd grade boys took on the tournament host team West Allegheny later this morning.

This was a game between two evenly matched teams, and it went back and forth all game. However, West Allegheny had a big 2nd half and came away with a 16-10 win.

Despite the loss, Hopewell did a lot of good things both offensively and defensively.

Although the final score wouldn’t support this, Hopewell’s offense did what they wanted to do and were executing their offensive sets but unfortunately for them, the ball wasn’t dropping. Time after time, a Viking player got off a good shot in the paint only to see the ball spin out or just miss going in. If they keep getting these types of looks, the ball will go in.

Defensively, this Hopewell team built off their strong defensive effort in the first game against Keystone Oaks. They forced a number of turnovers and contested a number of West Allegheny shots. A tip of the cap goes out to Cohen Biller who had unbelievable game on defense and showed tremendous effort for 32 minutes.

1ST HALF:
*Will Vukovcan with a blocked shot, passes off to Coleson Orie who passes it up to Lincoln Bokor, who takes it strong to the hoop for a layup, Hopewell 2-0

*Nice out of bounds play, Orie sets a nice screen, which allows Bokor to get to the hoop for another layup, Hopewell 4-0.

*Biller comes up with steal at midcourt and converts at the other end for a layup, Hopewell 6-2.

*Bokor had a handful of tremendous, aggressive drives to the rim and unfortunately luck wasn’t on his side today. However, his ability and strength to get past his man off the dribble was impressive.

*Right before halftime, Bokor with a missed shot, Vukovcan grabs the offensive rebound and puts it back up for a layup, Hopewell 8-6.

HALFTIME: HOPEWELL 8 WEST ALLEGHENY 6

2ND HALF:
*Biller with a nice pass to Bokor who converts a shot in the lane, Hopewell 10-8

Unfortunately, that was Hopewell’s last basket of the game. This was a two-point game up until 5- or 6-minutes left in the game when West Allegheny was able to convert a couple out of bounds plays.

FINAL SCORE: WEST ALLEGHENY 16 HOPEWELL 10

All in all, it was a fun, successful day for these kids and coaches.

Hopewell will find out later today who they’ll take on tomorrow when elimination play begins in this West Allegheny Tournament.

Imperial- After competing in a number of regular games, the Hopewell 3rd Boys travel team began play in their first tournament this morning.

The Vikings were up early as they took on Keystone Oaks at 8 AM in the West Allegheny tournament.

This was a big morning for these boys as they won their first game of the season, defeating KO, 12-9.

Colsen Orie made 4 clutch shots from the perimeter as he led the Vikings in scoring.  Lincoln Bokor and Cohen Biller each contributed 2 points apiece.

Hopewell played tremendous defense and came up with numerous steals as they anticipated the Keystone Oak passes and jumped them coming up with the turnovers.

Two of the biggest shots of the game came as Orie hit a shot at the halftime buzzer to give the Vikings a 4-point lead. Then in the 2nd half, Biller hit a mid-range shot from the top of the key to extend the lead to six.

Another key to this morning was the Vikings ability to control the boards. As the game progressed, Hopewell limited KO to one shot by grabbing the defensive rebound. Bokor, Biller and Will Vukovcan did a outstanding job rebounding.

Later on this morning, Hopewell takes on the host team West Allegheny.

This team is coached by Rob Orie and Craig Bokor.

Congratulations to the Hopewell 5th Grade Boys travel basketball team for winning the South Side Tournament today.

After losing their two opening games on Saturday, the Vikings responded today with three consecutive wins over West Allegheny, Blackhawk and Avella in the championship game.

In the finals, Hopewell defeated Avella by the score of 22-12. Hopewell sealed the win with a 9-0 run to end the game.

Landyn Dellicarpini led Hopewell in scoring with 10 points, followed by Cooper Biller and Bowen Smith each with 4 points, while Sean Bain and Kellen Boehm each contributed a basket.

A couple of other important stats that helped win this championship: 1)Hopewell had 27 rebounds, led by Dellicarpini with 7. 2) Active Hopewell defense, 10 steals, led by Breyson Hoth with 5.
