HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP- The Hopewell Vikings closed out their final home game of the regular season at Tony Dorsett Stadium with a commanding 7-0 victory over Riverside.

The night carried special meaning for Hopewell’s seniors who have played an important role in the team’s success this season, contributing across the defensive line, midfield and offensive attack. Their experience and ability to work together have helped the Vikings secure a playoff berth during Coach Ben’s first season leading the program. The night also had a special touch since every senior recognized a teacher that has made an impact on their lives before the game.

The Vikings opened the game with a strong defensive effort. Riverside earned an early free kick from approximately 30 yards out, but goaltender Tallon Coleman came up with the save to keep the game scoreless.

Hopewell quickly found its offensive rhythm when Elijah Persi-Jones converted a penalty kick for his first goal of the season, giving the Vikings an early 1-0 lead. Persi-Jones had been making aggressive runs forward from his defensive position over the past several games, consistently creating scoring opportunities. His persistence finally paid off with a well-deserved goal.

The Vikings added another goal following a strong passing sequence. Sam Wrzesniewski connected with Aaden Gonzalez, who sent a ball to Nykyeron Leonora, who dribbled toward the side, creating space before firing a shot into the net to extend Hopewell’s lead to 2-0.

Dominic Buchanan later delivered a powerful throw-in deep into Riverside’s defensive end, finding Leonora up front for his second goal of the game and giving the Vikings a 3-0 advantage heading into halftime.

The Vikings carried their momentum into the second half with another impressive passing sequence. Gonzalez connected with Quincy Sannan, who found Leonora, who played the ball back to Sannan, who returned it to Gonzalez. He then dribbled through Riverside defenders before finishing the opportunity for Hopewell’s fourth goal.

Kaleb Gonzalez added to the scoring when he fired a shot from approximately 30 yards out, sending the ball past the Riverside goalkeeper for a 5-0 lead.

One of the night’s memorable moments came when Buchanan delivered another long throw-in toward the front of the net. James Pistorius collected the ball and finished the opportunity for his first goal of the season, extending Hopewell’s lead to 6-0.

A SENIOR CLASS TO REMEMBER!

Beyond the final score, the evening was an opportunity to recognize the seniors who have contributed so much to the Vikings program.

Tallon Coleman has been a steady force in goal, anchoring Hopewell’s defense and recording at least 8 documented shutouts this season. His diving saves, willingness to come off his line and ability to challenge opposing attackers have been instrumental in protecting the Vikings’ net.

The senior defensive group of Elijah Persi-Jones, Sam Wrzesniewski, Dominic Buchanan an RJ Bushnell has provided Hopewell with a strong and experienced back line. Their ability to break up attacks, win possession and contribute offensively has been a major part of the teams’ success. Replacing the experience, chemistry and defensive strength of this group will be a significant challenge for the Vikings next season.

Quincy Sannan has established himself as the team’s leading goal scorer throughout the season. His ability to find the net and capitalize on opportunities has made him a key part of the Vikings’ offense.

James Pistorius demonstrated determination and perseverance after battling an injury early in the season. He worked his way back onto the field and continued contributing to Hopewell’s attack, making his first goal of the season during the final home game an especially meaningful moment.

Parker Hoth provided valuable versatility throughout the season, stepping into multiple positions wherever the team needed him. His willingness to adapt and contribute in different roles gave Hopewell additional flexibility on the field.

Will Arzberger consistently brought heart, hustle and an aggressive style of play to the Vikings. His determination to battle for possession and his willingness to challenge opponents made him a valuable contributor throughout the season.

Together, these seniors have helped build a team defined by hard work, versatility and commitment to one other.

While their final regular season game at Tony Dorsett Stadium marks the closing of one, chapter, their season is not finished.
