The Hopewell Vikings football team is back in action tonight as they’re in the back half of the 2025 season.
Hopewell needs to finish strong if they hope to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2012. In order to do that, they might need to win their 3 remaining section games against McGuffey, Central Valley and North Catholic.
A non-conference win next week at Freeport could also help their chances but we’ll get into the reasoning for that next week.
First things first and that’s tonight’s matchup against McGuffey. For the second week in a row though, this will not a game that won’t be very competitive.
McGuffey is 0-5 on the season and have been outscored 247-26 and haven’t scored more than 7 points in any game this season.
Washington, 28-7
West Allegheny, 65-7
Central Valley, 49-6
North Catholic, 63-0
Beaver, 42-6
On the other hand, Hopewell finds themselves with a record of 4-2 and have outscored their opponents 248-107.
Hopewell will win easily tonight but I’m not sure this is a good thing. Yes, it’s always good to win but at this point of the season, I’m sure Coach Mottes and the coaching staff want to start preparing the players for the difficult stretch run. These matchups the last two weeks won’t be able to do that.
Unless Hopewell wants to run the score up on the opponent this will be another game where the starters will only play half the game. Aside from winning, the goal is to leave this game without any injuries.
Here are the current standings and tonight’s section schedule. The first four teams in the section will qualify for the playoffs.
North Catholic: 2-0
Avonworth: 2-0
Central Valley: 2-1
Beaver: 2-1
————————-
Hopewell: 1-2
Quaker Valley: 0-2
McGuffey: 0-3
Tonight’s schedule: McGuffey vs. Hopewell, Central Valley at North Catholic, Deer Lakes vs. Beaver, Avonworth vs. Quaker Valley.
PREDICTION: Hopewell will be able to pick the score and then get ready for their next 3 opponents, which have a combined record of 15-3 (Avonworth 6-0, Freeport 6-0 and Beaver 3-3). Reminder that tonight’s game will be broadcast live on the Vikings Sports Now Facebook page.
FINAL SCORE:Â HOPEWELL 59-0.
