HOPEWELL– Following games last week against South Fayette and Avonworth, the Hopewell Girls Junior High Basketball 7th and 8th teams were back home yesterday to host Moon.Â
Like with their two opponents last week, the Moon Tigers perennially have a strong program, so this was going to be a test for the Lady Vikings.
Hopewell came to play and even though the 7th grade team didn’t quite get the win, both teams fought hard.
In a competitive game, the Hopewell 7th graders came up short, losing 29-24.
Rilynn Davis led the team in scoring with 15 points, while Vanessa Kurta scored 3 and Isla Rock and Naveah Pope each scored 2.
Meanwhile, the Hopewell 8th grade team walked away with an impressive 56-29 win. They were a force under the hoop and from the outside.
Amiyah Shell led the way with 18 points and Ellie McCoy was close behind with 15.
Other difference makers were Arionna Shell with 8 points and Afton Budris with 7. Dallas Boyd, Luz Jimenez, Rilynn Davis and Vanessa Kurta all helped out with 2 points each.
The Hopewell girls’ junior high teams will travel to West Allegheny Thursday to take on the Indians. Good luck girls!
