Talking this week with A&S Federal Credit Union Manager Gina Huntington, she wanted to clear up a question that is frequently asked.
What’s the difference between a credit union and a bank?
A credit union is a not-for-profit organization that is overseen by a board of directors who are volunteers (they aren’t paid to do the job). Credit unions exist to support their membership and the communities they serve. They are not allowed to generate a profit for the sole purpose of making money.
They generate enough income to support the business and pay the employees. Anything over and above that is given back to the members in the form of lower loan rates and lesser fees. Credit Unions also use the additional income to improve our products and services. And of course, they love to celebrate their members by offering free or low-cost events. In fact, A&S Federal Credit Union just hosted a free family game night at Pinball PA in Hopewell. All credit union members and their families played pinball all evening for free. They ordered Vocelli’s pizza and served non-alcoholic beverages. Everyone had a fantastic time; it was a great night!
UPCOMING A&S FEDERAL CREDIT UNION EVENT
On Saturday, May 30, A&S will be hosting a FREE ADMISSION FOR EVEYONE at Pittsburgh PA Motor Speedway. Anyone can attend the event at no charge; just bring a non-perishable item to donate to 24FortyPGH (a local food pantry that serves the Pittsburgh area). More details will be provided later when we get closer to the event.
