Mike Vukovcan HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP– It wasn’t the cleanest game they’ve played all season but, in the end, it counts as a win.
Hopewell jumped out to a 9-2 lead and closed things down in the final inning to defeat Serra Catholic, 9-6. The win improves the Vikings to 10-4 with 5 games remaining the regular season.

Because it was a non-section game and in order to save his availability for the upcoming Central Valley series, senior starter Payton Korker was on a strict pitch count.

In his 4 innings, Korker was dominant as he’s been the entire season. PK went 4 innings, allowing 3 hits 1 run, 0 walks and struck out 5 batters. In his 4 innings, Korker threw just 39 pitches 33 of which went for strikes.
Senior Drew Donovan went the final 3 innings and was very unlucky as he allowed 5 runs, all of which were unearned. Hopewell committed 4 errors in the field today.
Hopewell scored 9 runs and collected 10 hits but only 2 of the runs they scored were earned because Serra committed 7 errors in the field.
At the plate, senior catcher Charlie Smetana led the way as he reached base 4 times and went 3 for 3 with 2 doubles. Senior first baseman Logan Triscila went 2 for 3 with an RBI, while sophomore second baseman Collin Davis was 2 for 2, including a deep double to left field.

Hopewell has the weekend off before they start a pretty big 2-game series on Monday vs. Central Valley. The game on Monday is at Hopewell High School with a 1st pitch scheduled for 4 PM.
