Things get real tomorrow for the Hopewell Vikings HS football team as they put on pads for the first time this season.
Players performing drills and 11-on-11 drills will allow HC Matt Mottes and his staff a better opportunity evaluate his personnel and players that are in position battles.
Many spots are still open on both sides of the ball, including jobs at the linebacker spot. Mottes will be looking to replace a couple of players that are gone from last season’s team- Justin Obeldobel (graduation) and George Tafkov (transfer).
Three players that are battling for two jobs are Greg Gigliotti, Evan McCabe and Javion Lindsey.
Lindsey has made tremendous progress since joining the program last season as evidenced by the fact that he’s in contention for a starting role despite it being his first time playing football since the youth level.
The junior is a member of the Hopewell HS basketball program and the Vikings HS baseball program and is now looking to make his mark as a starter with the football program.
Vikings Sports Now had the chance to talk with Lindsey following practice on Friday.
