If you’re ready for some football, you have the opportunity to check some out tonight.
The Hopewell High School football team will play the ‘Blue/Gold’ Game tonight at Tony Dorsett Stadium. Action will get underway at 7 PM.
This Blue/Gold game was started by HC Matt Mottes last year and it will be an opportunity for Mottes and his staff to evaluate positions and players on their team.
I’m told that this is a competition for starting spots and opportunities on the two-deep depth chart. The depth chart is important because the coaches want to use a nice rotation of players in order to keep fresh players on the field. Also, at some point injures will occur and who will be ‘the next man up’?
Tonight, the players will be split up but sophomore James Armstrong will be the quarterback for both sides. Also, some lineman will be going both ways.
This game will be a good warmup for Hopewell’s scrimmage this Saturday morning against Ellwood City. That scrimmage will start at 10 AM from Tony Dorsett Stadium.
The 2025 season will officially kickoff next Friday when Hopewell travels to take on the Riverside Panthers.
