Baseball fans in Hopewell are aware of how well HC Morgan Singletary’s team is playing and it appears others around the WPIAL are starting to take notice.

This morning, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette released their weekly rankings and for the first time this season, the Hopewell Vikings are ranked.

Lisa McCoy, State Farm

Hopewell softball and youth baseball is sponsored by Lisa McCoy, your neighborhood State Farm agent.

Hopewell (6-3) is now ranked No. 4 in Class 4A. Like Hopewell, Belle Vernon and Valley are ranked for the first time.

CLASS 4A
1. Indiana (8-1)
2. West Mifflin (10-2)
3. Belle Vernon (8-3)
4. HOPEWELL (6-3)
5. Valley (9-2)

Hopewell’s Drew Donovan

These ranking are interesting considering Blackhawk (7-2) is in first place and considered by many to be the clear favorite in Class 4A/Section 1. Despite this, the Post-Gazette has Hopewell as the only team from Section 1 ranked. A reason for this may be two recent impressive non-section wins by Hopewell over both first place Avonworth and 5A Montour.

Entering today’s games, here are the teams currently at the top of the standings in Section 1.

Blackhawk: 4-1
Beaver: 5-2
Hopewell: 4-2
Ambridge: 4-3

Two important games to keep track of today are Ambridge vs. Central Valley and Beaver taking on Blackhawk.

Hopewell is in action this afternoon as they take on Shaler in a non-section game. The Vikings return to section play next Monday when they go up against Hampton in a very important 2-game series.
