AVONWORTH– An early season trend continued last night for the Hopewell HS Softball team.
In 4 of their 6 games this season, the Vikings have fallen behind big early, which cripples their chances of coming back.
Against Neshannock they trailed by 5 after 2 innings, trailed by 8 after 2 against North Catholic, 15 after 1 by Mohawk and last night against Avonworth, they got behind 7-0 after 2 innings and ended up losing the game 8-1.
A few things to build on and take away as positives from the game:
-In their first match, Avonworth won 17-5 and collected 17 hits, and last night, Hopewell held Avonworth to 8 runs and just 8 hits.
-All of the previous stats were no doubt helped out by the fact that Hopewell played much better defense. In the first game, they committed a season-high 10 errors and last night, the Hopewell defenders committed just 1 error.
That’s a notable difference and improvement for this young team, that will be looking for positives to take from each game.

Hopewell’s Allison Ramaley
In terms of individual performances, senior Allison Ramaley took over in the first inning and went the rest of the way, pitching 5.1 innings, allowing 6 hits, 4 earned runs and not allowing a walk.
At the plate, the Hopewell batters were only able to gather 5 hits, one each by Claire Sarkis, Marina Pinchotti, Lillian Otto, Addison Pavlisko and Dakota Roche.
