A couple of weeks ago, the Beaver County Times announced their finalists for athletes of the year in the spring and asked the public to cast their votes for the eventual winner.

We’re excited to announce that a Hopewell athlete was won in their particular category.

Hopewell senior Emily Bauknight has been named the winner as the Beaver County Times Track and Field Athlete of the Year. Bauknight is the winner of the field portion of the sport.

Bauknight is an elite pole vaulter for HC Jeff Brunton’s program. This season, she had a personal best of 9’6″ in the pole vault and received a silver medal for pole vault at the Beaver County Championship this year.

Bauknight qualified for the WPIAL championships this season and finished 11th overall in the field.

This talented Viking will be taking her talent to Geneva College to compete on their track and field team.

“Emily was totally committed to being the best pole vaulter possible,” Brunton told Vikings Sports Now. “She worked hard all winter and spring at our practices and at her club. I’m excited to see what she does at the next level at Genva.”
