Hopewell HS Girls Basketball Falls to Hampton,

Last night, the Hopewell High School Girls Basketball Team took on an undefeated 5A team in Hampton. They knew it would be difficult matchup from the start, but they were up for that challenge. They gave it their all, and that’s all we ask from them.

1ST QUARTER:

Hampton came out aggressive on both ends, but Hopewell got early scores from Hannah McDowell and Avery Boyd. Hopewell had trouble finding a rhythm offensively and was forced to use an early timeout. Despite the slow start, Hopewell stayed within striking distance to keep the score 7-4.

End of 1st Quarter: Hampton 7-4

2ND QUARTER:

Boyd sparked the offense with a smooth corner three, helping Hopewell close the gap. The Vikings continued to battle, but Hampton’s defensive pressure and timely scoring kept them in control. Hopewell went into halftime behind 15-9.

3RD QUARTER:

Hopewell played well coming out of the locker room. Addison Blosnick scored off a rebound and put-back, while McDowell took over offensively with jumpers and trips to the free throw line. Boyd added another three, and Hopewell’s deficit shrunk to only 4 points as they trailed 23-19 at the end of the third.

End of 2nd Quarter: Hampton 23-19

4TH QUARTER:

Boyd pushed the Vikings even farther into Hampton territory by knocking down a three, finishing a floater, and going perfect from the free throw line. But it was not enough, as Hampton pulled away with an outstanding fourth quarter finish.

FINAL SCORE: Hopewell 31, Hampton 42

A loss isn’t always a bad thing, especially if it is against a dominant team like Hampton. It is a chance to learn from your mistakes and come back better the next game, which is what they will do.
