Ellwood City– After starting out the Ellwood City Tournament with a 13-11 win over Ellwood City Friday night, the Hopewell 9-year-old All-Star Team followed that up with another impressive performance.
This afternoon, the Vikings took on Blackhawk and came away with an 11-6 win.
As was the case yesterday, Hopewell got solid pitching along with solid hitting up and down their batting order. Hopewell outhit the Cougars 13-4 and only committed 1 error. Not only was Hopewell collecting hits, but they were also extra-base hits. Hopewell banged out 3 doubles and an incredible 5 triples in the game.
GAME RECAP-
Bottom of 1st: Blackhawk scored 2 runs in the top of the 1st inning, but Hopewell quickly responded with 4 of their own. Jordan Peck led off with a single and after advancing to third base and a couple of wild pitches, Peck scored on a RBI ground out by Jonah Honess. Brody Benson, who was red-hot last night, stayed hot with a single and would score on an RBI single by Aaron Ackerman. The game was tied at 2.
Next up, Bennett Beron, who homered last night, hit an RBI triple to center field, which scored Ackerman. Hopewell led 3-2. Beron then scored as Maddox Kennedy hit an RBI single to center. Hopewell 4-2.
Bottom of 2nd: Â After Honess pitched a scoreless top of the 2nd, Hopewell added to their lead. Deacon Ankrom led off and was hit by a pitch. Next up, Michael Kurta hit a sharp double to center field, scoring Ankrom. After Kurta scored on consecutive wild pitches, Tristyn Trkulja tripled to center field, which followed by another triple by Peck. Hopewelll led 8-2.
Top of 3rd: DJ Towler came on to pitch for Hopewell in the third inning. Towler gave up 1 run but ended the inning with a strikeout and a groundball to Ackerman at first base. Hopewell 8-3.
Bottom of 3rd: With 1 on and 1 out, Towler joined in on the triple parade as he hit one which scored Quinn Zappas. Hopewell 9-3.
Bottom of 4th: Blackhawk scored 2 in the top of the 4th, but Hopewell answered with two of their own. With 1 on and 1 out, Honess hit an RBI double which scored Peck. Later in the inning, Benson doubled to left field, which was followed by a triple by Ackerman. Hopewell 11-5.
Top of 6th: Hopewell entered the last inning with a 6-run lead and Ackerman closed things out. Two outs came on ground balls back to the mound and the game ended with a strikeout.

Hopewell will enter bracket play 2-0 and will tomorrow as the No. 2 seed behind No. 1 seed Knoch.
