Hopewell Girls Volleyball Start Season 2-0 w/Sweep of Blackhawk

Hopewell traveled to Blackhawk on Thursday evening to play their first road game of the season. Coming off their opening game victory, Hopewell’s goal was to keep their early season momentum going.

Blackhawk gave Hopewell everything they could handle in the first set, grabbing an early lead, holding a slim margin all the way to the end of the set with several long and intense rallies. Hopewell made several key plays at the end of the set showing resilience and took their first lead at 25-24 before promptly ending the thrilling comeback 26-24. In the 2nd and 3rd sets, Hopewell took better control early in the sets and pulled away to a 3-0 victory with authority to push their season record to 2-0.

Here is how each set played out:

Set 1:

1 – 1 Bree Inderelst with a kill to get Hopewell on the board

3 – 7 Lahna Murray with a smash kill to stop an early Blackhawk run

6 – 7 Addison Davis gets on a run from the serve to pull Hopewell back into to the game. Inderelst with the kill.

7 – 9 Inderelst with the dig and Murray places it in the perfect spot.

9 – 10 Hannah McDowell with a block

16 – 18 Inderelst with a much-needed serve ending in a Blackhawk error to keep Hopewell in the set.

18 – 20 Bella Ceccarelli with a sneaky flip shot over to the middle.

19 – 22 Mikayla Kurta with a quick kill on a return

21 – 22 McDowell with a great serve to pull within 1 point.

22 – 22 Kurta with a massive block to tie it up

23 – 24 Ceccarelli with a nifty play down the right side on what was a Blackhawk set point.

25 – 24 Hopewell takes their first lead of the set on back-to-back Ceccarelli’s serves

26 – 24 Kurta with a late kill to pull off a great comeback win in Set 1

Set 2:

4 – 0 McDowell starts off Set 2 hot from the serve line with Inderelst’s help on a kill

6 – 1 Davis dig to Avery Boyd for a nice placement shot

8 – 1 Cici Smetana with a nice read on a long hit from Blackhawk

10 – 1 Ceccarelli with the serve and Inderelst a quick kill on the return

12 – 1 Ceccarelli with an ace that just caught the back line

13 – 5 Ceccarelli with an early flip shot to stop a Blackhawk run

15 – 7 Boyd with an excellent athletic play from the far-left side to return a ball

17 – 7 Murray with a block

18 – 10 Ceccarelli with a beautiful corner shot

19 – 10 Addison Blosnik with a kill off a Marina Pinchotti serve

22 – 12 Kurta with back-to-back blocks

24 – 12 Blosnik with another kill off a beautiful set from Murray

25 – 15 A Blackhawk service error finishes off Set 2

Set 3:

1 – 1 Kurta gets Hopewell started with an early kill

3 – 1 Inderelst with back-to-back kills off of sets by Sky Ross

5 – 1 Kurta with a beautiful placement shot to the corner

8 – 2 Davis with back-to-back great line drive serves to help win points.

10 – 5 Blackhawk fights back but a service error stops the run

12 – 6 Murray with a kill off of Ceccarelli’s set

14 – 6 McDowell with a powerful kill

15 – 8 McDowell with a great placement shot off the dig from Inderelst and set from Ceccarelli

17 – 10 McDowell with an ace

18 – 11 Ella Goodrum with the dig leading to another Hopewell point

20 – 11 Goodrum with another great dig that Ross places right in the campfire.

22 – 11 Inderelst with an amazing one-handed play on the left side with her back to the net.

25 – 11 Ceccarelli serves the last 4 points to secure the 3-0 victory.

**Earlier in the JV Game Hopewell was also victorious for the 2nd game in a row, pushing their season record to 2-0 as well.
