The 2025 high school football regular season hasn’t even started yet and although coaches don’t want to talk or think about this yet, we’re going to do it.
The 2025 WPIAL playoffs and how many teams qualify.
The WPIAL changed the playoff format last season and got rid of the long-time Gardner Points System and changed things up.
Because of that and because the playoffs are the expectation for this years Hopewell Vikings football team, we wanted to paint the picture before things got underway.
In Class 3A, there are 3 conferences- the Western Hils, the Allegheny Seven and the Interstate conferences.
The top 3 teams in each conference will qualify, along with 3 wild card teams that will be determined by the WPIAL steering committee. The overall strength of conference could be a factor that the committee takes into consideration.
The playoffs will consist of 4 rounds. The top four seeds in the bracket will receive a first-round bye. Seeds No. 5 through 8 will host first-round playoff games.
The four teams that received first-round byes will host quarterfinals. The two semifinal games will be played at a neutral site location.
The Class 3A will be played at Acrisure Stadium on either Friday, November 21 or Saturday, November 22.
Let’s hope that playoffs is something Hopewell is planning for following their season ending game against North Catholic on October 25.
