It feels as though the Hopewell High School boys’ and girls’ sports teams were just preparing to start the 2026 Fall season but that’s not the case as things are coming to a close.
While the regular season may be finished, plenty of meaningful games are coming up in the near future.
Congratulations to 3 Hopewell Vikings HS teams that have qualified for the WPIAL Fall Playoffs- the Girls Volleyball team, the Boys Soccer team and the Vikings football program.
Earning a spot in the postseason is nothing new for the Vikings Girls Volleyball program as this becomes the 28th straight season in which they’ve qualified for the WPIAL volleyball playoffs. That’s a pretty amazing streak.
Last season, Coach Borkovic’s squad advanced all the way to the WPIAL Championship Game before losing to Avonworth.
Hopewell will find out first playoff opponent as the WPIAL will be releasing the volleyball playoff matchups this Friday afternoon.

The Hopewell Boys soccer team qualified for the WPIAL playoffs under 1st year head coach Ben Bezems.
The Vikings finished the regular season with a record of 8-5-1 in Class 2A/Section 2.
Hopewell is back in the playoffs after missing the playoffs in 2025 and will find out their playoff bracket later this afternoon.
Because of their strong goaltending and defense, if Hopewell is able to generate some offense, they could be a sneaky sleeper team in the playoffs.

One team that won’t be sneaking up on anyone is the Hopewell Vikings football team.
HC Matt Mottes’ program is rolling as they’ve been the No. 2 ranked team in Class 3A for weeks after spending some time as the top ranked team.
Last season, Hopewell qualified and won a WPIAL playoff game for the first time in 13 years but the goals this season are much larger than winning just one playoff game.
Before the playoffs start, Hopewell still has business they’re trying to take care of as they’re hoping to win their first section title since Rushel Shell’s sophomore season in 2009.
With 2 regular season games remaining, Hopewell is currently tied for 1st place with Aliquippa.
This Friday, the Vikings will host Ambridge on Senior Night before closing out the regular season at Aliquippa. The winner of that game will in all likelihood win the section title.
If Hopewell wins the section, they’ll likely enter the WPIAL playoffs as either the No. 1 or No. 2 seed, depending on the outcome of the Propel vs. Avonworth matchup.
