On April 24, 2026, the spirit of competition was in full swing as Hopewell held its own Hopewell Area School District Special Olympics. While the district participates in the Beaver County games, those are restricted to students aged eight and older; by hosting their own local event, Hopewell opened the field to every student from K-12.
Under a cloudless sky, the Special Education Director, Special Ed Department, Hopewell Admin and Staff orchestrated a premier athletic showcase. The morning kicked off with a “Super Bowl-caliber” rendition of the National Anthem by Bella Pashuta, followed immediately by the Hopewell Viking Marching Band’s high-energy performance of the district fight song. The Hopewell Cheerleaders were also on the sidelines, providing a constant wave of energy for the athletes.
The action on the track featured a 25-meter “Run and Roll,” designed to include both sprinters and wheelchair competitors. In the field events, athletes competed in the discus (frisbee throw) and shot put (tennis ball long throw). The day’s highlight was a four-person relay race that added a local twist, using a Viking helmet as the baton.
This wasn’t just an athletic feat—it was a district-wide effort. Varsity athletes from the track and field, softball, and baseball teams manned the stations, while members of the Junior High National Honor Society served as “Buddies” for the competitors. Thanks to the support of the entire student body, the event was a massive success, ensuring every athlete walked away with a victory.
