With the weather finally starting to take a turn for the better and allowing outdoor sports to get underway, plenty of athletes from Hopewell were busy over the weekend.

That was particularly true with large number of boys and girls in our district that participate in soccer.

Vikings Sports Now wanted to let you know about these players and to highlight their achievements. We also had another important event take place over the weekend that involved student athletes from Hopewell High School.

HOPEWELL VIKINGS WEEKEND SPORTS NOTEBOOK:
**Hopewell’s Declan Snyder and Maddox Kennedy and their Pittsburgh U9 Academy Black team won the Capital Cup Title in thrilling fashion!

Snyder, Kennedy and their team finished 4-0, including the championship win.

FC Pittsburgh came out strong in the opening round, earning a 4-1 win which set the tone for the weekend and followed that up with a dominating 12-1 in Game Two. Game Three was their toughest test in pool play as they were challenged but came away with a 5-4 win.

The championship match was a highly competitive match between two talented teams, and it went back and forth all game. FC Pittsburgh trailed by a goal with seconds left and they got the game-tying goal which sent the game into penalty kicks.

With Maddox Kennedy stepping into goal, the pressure was at its peak and Kennedy came up clutch, helping secure a 7-6 victory in the shootout to seal the championship.

Both Snyder and Kennedy played key roles in goal throughout the tournament, anchoring the defense while also contributing to the team’s success. Kennedy made an impact on both ends of the field, scoring multiple goals over the course of the weekend.
