The Hopewell Middle School Swim team had their first regular season meet yesterday as they took on Moon.
Although the Vikings 7th and 8th graders came up short in terms of winning the match, plenty of Hopewell swimmers enjoyed success including Evelyn Cagnon.
In her second year with the program, Cagnon took first place in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 32.55 and also finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:14.

Here is video of Evelyn’s winning event!
Cagnon started swimming at Treehaven Pool just for fun but quickly developed a likening for it and realized that she was good enough to compete. With that in mind, she joined the Steel City Swim Club and swims their short course season, which is August and September.
Last year was Cagnon’s first year swimming for the Junior High Swim team and finished the season with having the top times for the following strokes: 50 free, 100 free, 200 free, 50 fly and the 100 M.
This is no doubt exciting news for Hopewell High School Swim coach Kathi Lopez and the Vikings program.
