Mike Vukovcan HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP- The Hopewell Vikings football team has been flexing their muscles lately and that continued Friday night as they completely dominated Ellwood City, 60-0.
The Vikings (6-1) are in currently in a stretch of games that haven’t been and won’t be very competitive due to the mismatch in talent. Over their last 4 games, Hopewell has outscored Central Valley, Western Beaver, Beaver and Ellwood City by a combined score of 203-26.
By having these types of games it’s good in the sense that the starters are doing their jobs well and allowing the second team players to get on the field for valuable varsity action.
On the other hand, Hopewell starters have only been playing 2+ quarters and aren’t be tested at all. Will that be a good thing heading into the playoffs?
This dominance will continue over the next two weeks with games against OLSH and Ambridge, which will then take them to their season finale against Aliquippa, which will no doubt be a four-quarter game for the starters.
Credit to Hopewell HC Matt Mottes as he did everything possible to not run this score up. For the most part, Hopewell didn’t have their punt returners field punts, the offense didn’t attempt a deep pass and late in the game with the ball inside the 5-yard line, the Hopewell offense kneeled on the ball.
It’s one thing to try and win the game, it’s another to win with class and Mottes attempted to do that.
