What a Special Evening of Pink Out Events Throughout Hopewell!

0 2 2 minutes read

It was a special evening on Monday as various sports teams throughout Hopewell were active in promoting Breast Cancer awareness.

The Hopewell High School Girls Volleyball program, the Hopewell HS Boys Soccer program along with Hopewell Youth Baseball were busy wearing pink and trying to raise money to battle that horrible disease.

The Girls volleyball team got things started by having a Pink Out Event during their JV and Varsity matches versus Quaker Valley.

The Vikings Booster Club worked hard over the last month to collect items that were auctioned off, along with accepting donations and having special food that was sold last evening.

It was a tremendous success as at the end of the evening, they were able to raise over $2,000 which will be given to the Hair Peace Charities.

The Hopewell Girls Volleyball program issued this statement following last night’s event:

“Thank you from Hopewell Girls Volleyball. We are still overwhelmed by the incredible sea of pink, the amazing energy, and the tremendous support at our Pink Out event. A massive THANK YOU to everyone who came out, cheered loud, and contributed to our cause. Because of your incredible generosity, we are proud to announce that we will be sending a donation check of $2,007 to Hair Peace Charities.

Thank you for showing up, giving back, and proving just how strong our community is when we come together. We wouldn’t have done this without all of you. Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”

The special evening continued down at the Kane Road Baseball field and the Hopewell Youth Baseball organization.

An awesome took place as a couple teams showed support for a Hopewell teacher currently battling breast cancer.

Team Daley and Team Matthew, in 8U League, wore pink to support Mrs. Amanda Erwin and her fight against breast cancer. She is a second-grade teacher at Hopewell Elementary. Mrs. Erwin is taking the year off as she battles and a lot of these players know her daughter, Sloan, who’s in 2nd grade.

The Hopewell coaches and players wanted to support Mrs. Erwin and let her know her students are still with her. A tremendous act of kindness!

Mrs. Erwin was touched by this gesture and wanted to thank everyone.

“Well, Que the tears again. More of my favorite kids (and parents) blew me away when I walked up to their game and saw all this pink. This community has really given me the push I need lately because it’s been really tough this treatment/week. I think pink is starting to rub off on me. I love you all so much.”

Things didn’t end there as the Boys HS soccer team also wore pink to make awareness for those battling breast cancer, including another special woman in our community, Jessica Gonzalez. After going through months of treatment, we are so fortunate that Jessica was able to beat it and recently got a clean bill of health.
