BEAVER– On their heels of a game against West Allegheny, the Hopewell Girls junior high basketball team were back in action Wednesday as they traveled to take on Beaver.
In the first game of the afternoon, the Beaver 7th grade team got the best of Hopewell, 42-23. That was followed up with the 8th grade game in which Hopewell came out on top, 42-28.
The 7th graders got off to a slow start but finished strong as they outscored Beaver, 12-7, in the 4th quarter but it was too late.
Congratulations to Isla Rock who led Hopewell by scoring a season-high 14 points. That was followed by Rilynn Davis with 9 points and Callie Sadler, Vanessa Kurta, Nevaeh Pope and Mackenzie Bellomo each with 2.
The Vikings 8th grade girls continued their winning ways with a 14-point victory.
Once again, the key to Hopewell’s win was their defense, in particular their press, which generated plenty of turnovers and points.
Amiyah Shell led the way for Hopewell with 18 points followed by Ellie McCoy, who was a force inside with 13 points. Afton Budris had another strong game with 6 points, followed by Arionna Shell with 4 and Dallas Boyd and Rilynn Davis each with 1.
Hopewell will return to the court this afternoon as they travel to take on a strong Montour program.
