Mike Vukovcan It’s natural for people to want to be associated with success and that’s certainly the case in sports.
When a team wins a lot, players want to be part of it because as we all know ‘Winning is Fun’.
Over the last decade, the Hopewell HS Girls Volleyball team has done plenty of winning under Hall of Fame Head Coach Terry Borkovic. The most recent example is their run to the WPIAL AA Championship match last season.
Volleyball is a continually growing sport in Hopewell as evidenced by the record number of girls that came out for the volleyball team this season. When fall tryouts began, Borkovic knew immediately that tough decisions would have to be made as close to 40 players showed up to earn a spot on the roster.
Obviously, the Hopewell staff knew they couldn’t keep that many players around and unfortunately roster cuts had to be made. In high school, coaches do whatever is possible to avoid having to cut players for fear of them losing interest in the sport and they then stop playing.
With the regular season officially starting on Monday, Coach Borkovic needed to get down to a manageable roster size and has settled on a varsity and JV roster for this season.
Congrats to the following players that earned a spot on the Hopewell Vikings Girls Volleyball program.
And for those that didn’t make it, please remember that getting cut from a high school team is disappointing but not defining. Keep in mind, the following professional athletes were cut from their high school teams and things turned out pretty well for them: Michael Jordan, Carmelo Anthony, Orel Hershiser and Mark Buehrle, just to name a few.
Hopewell High School Team:
Seniors– Bella Ceccarelli, Addison Davis, Ella Goodrum, Brianna Inderelst, Lahna Murray and Sky Ross.
Juniors: Avery Boyd, Mikayla Kurta, Marina Pinchotti and Ayla Pisano
Sophomores: Teagan Murray, Addison Blosnick, Tessa Burgess, Hannah McDowell and Cecilia Smetana.
HOPEWELL JV TEAM:
Sophomores: Maddie Earley, Sydney Malachanic, Lily Oldham, Addison Pavlisko, Jiselle Cain
Freshman: Abby Babinsack, Bella Cipolla, Kaycee Gini, Lilianna Katcher, Lillian Otto, Ava Ray and Gianna Rossi.
