What a Night for Owen McGovern- 3 Home Runs as Hopewell’s Trey Thomas Defeats Spring Magnone, 17-9

HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP– We’ve had some huge individual performances this season within the Hopewell Youth Baseball League and last night’s might have been the best.

12-year-old Owen McGovern had a night he’ll never forget as he went 3-for-3, with 3 homeruns and 7 RBIs leading Hopewell’s Trey Thomas (11-12-year-olds) to a 17-9 win over Hopewell’s Spring Magnone.

Getting the long ball is nothing new for McGovern as he smacked a home run earlier this year against South Side. Also, McGovern plays for 12U BV White (travel baseball) and had 3 homeruns in his team’s first tournament.

McGovern and Wes Gigliotti were fantastic from the #3 and #4 spots in the lineup as they combined to go 6 for 7 with 6 runs, and 12 RBIs. Gigliotti went for 3-for-4 with 2 doubles, 3 runs and 5 RBIs.

Other performances to mention for HYB/Trey Thomas Images were Bowen Smith 1-2, with 3 runs, 1 RBI and 2 walks, Breyson Hoth 1 for 3 with 2 runs, Carter Dicicco went 2 for 4 with 2 runs, Emanuel Pisano 1 for 3 with an RBI and Tyler Berich went 1-for-3 with a run and an RBI.

Taking a look at the box score for Hopewell’s Spring Magnone- Jack Holsinger continues to hit the ball well as he went 2-for-4 with 2 RBIs from the leadoff spot. Lucas Strano was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI, Logan Giering had a perfect night going 2-for-2 with 2 walks, Reagan Haring continues his solid hitting by going 2-for-3 with a walk and 3 RBI and Jace Campbell had a good night going 2-for-2 with a walk and an RBI and Jacen Zito went 1-for-3 with an RBI.

Berich got the start for Hopewell’s/Team Trey Thomas going 2 innings, allowing 4 hits, 4 runs, 2 walks and striking out 2 batters. Bryce Croner pitched the 3rd inning allowing 2 hits, 3 runs and striking a batter. McGovern then pitched the 4th and 5 innings allowing 3 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. Gigliotti closed out the game allowing 3 hits, 1 earned run, 1 walk and 1 strikeout.

For Hopewell’s Spring Magnone, Clayton Magnone struck out all 7 batters he faced, while allowing 3 earned runs.

Hopewell’s Trey Thomas will return to the field tomorrow when they take on Hopewell’s Homer 9.

These kids work hard and the wins prove it. Great job boys. Kudos to all. So proud of my grandson and team.
