Mike Vukovcan Both the Hopewell High School and Junior High Girls Soccer teams were in action on Wednesday, and both teams came out with wins!
Let’s start with the varsity match as Hopewell took on South Side in a scrimmage.

In a very encouraging effort, the Lady Vikings came away with a 5-1 win. Goal scorers for Hopewell were Afton Budris (2), Harley Hample (1), Bella Torres (1) and Presley Penberthy (1).

A nice job in net by goalkeeper Lydia Saxe, who played the entire match and allowed only 1 goal.
This win comes on the heels of Hopewell losing to Sewickley Academy in a scrimmage on Monday. Getting positive results is very important for this program with the majority of the roster being freshman.
The regular season officially gets underway on Tuesday when Hopewell hosts Elizabeth Forward. The match from Tony Dorsett Stadium will get underway at 6:30 PM.
HOPEWELL GIRLS JUNIOR HIGH SOCCER
The Girls Junior High Soccer team has gotten off to a tremendous start.
After dominating Sewickley Academy, 9-2, on Monday, Hopewell kept the positive momentum going with a 2-0 win over Beaver.
This was a highly competitive match with the score 0-0 at the half. Hopewell had multiple chances and controlled the midfield and offensive end of the field.
The Hopewell defense led by Mackenzie Bellomo and Jacelyn Muller held Beaver’s offense to only a few chances to get near the goal box.
In the second half, Hopewell kept the offensive pressure going and it finally resulted in a goal. Charlotte Kovell got to the ball on the end line left of the goal and centered it for a quick finish by Kendall Bain. Hopewell led 1-0.
Hopewell then iced the game with 1 minute left. Beaver had a corner kick, and the ball was deflected to the midfield area. Grace Pistorius saw the opportunity to beat the Beaver players to the ball and sent it up to Amzey Budris for a long breakaway, which she buried, to seal the game. Hopewell led 2-0.
With this win, Hopewell ups their record to 2-0 with their next match coming on Monday afternoon at Freedom.
