Hopewell Township- In front of a nice sized crowd at the Hopewell Junior High School, the Hopewell 3rd and 5th grade boys travel teams were involved in playoff basketball.
The 5th team took on Central Valley in a semifinal game while the 3rd graders went up against West Allegheny in the championship game.
All these playoff games are part of the Pittsburgh Basketball Club/Beaver County Bantam Basketball League.
In the opener, congratulations to Hopewell’s 5th grade team as they defeated Central Valley, 35-31, in a well-played, emotional game.
This was a 1-2 point game from late in the 3rd quarter all the way through the 4th quarter. High intensity!
Here were the closing seconds of the game.
Taking a look at the Hopewell scorebook:
#1 Wes Gigliotti – 8 pts
#2 Beckett Phillips – 4 pts
#3 Bryce Croner – 6 pts
#4 Myles Fischer – 3 pts
#11 Colton Lenart – 3 pts
#30 Mike Ambrose – 2 pts (6 rebounds)
#34 Nate Newberry – 9 pts
In the championship game, the Vikings will take on Moon on a date to be determined.
Unfortunately, the results weren’t the same when it comes to the 3rd grade team.
Hopewell got off to a hot start against West Allegheny, but after the 1st quarter, WA’s stifling on-ball defense was something that gave Hopewell problems the entire game.
In the end, Hopewell couldn’t get any quality looks and struggled to score, losing 27-16.
Hopewell led after the 1st quarter, 10-9, but were only able to score 6 points the rest of the way.
Jordan Peck led Hopewell in scoring with 12 points, while Jonah Honess scored 4 points.
Regardless of tonight’s outcome, this was a tremendous season for this group of boys as they competed for the first time in travel basketball. Nice job boys!
After the game, Vikings Sports Now spoke with Hopewell 3rd grade head coach Andrew Honess.
