Wanted to let you know about something that returned to Hopewell this year.
Mrs. Amanda Erwin, Mrs. Amanda Lynn and Ms. Katie Snyder brought back ‘Kids of Steel’ at the Pittsburgh Marathon for Hopewell Elementary this year.
They had 167 current students sign up to participate, which was tremendous! The goal was for students to run 25 miles prior to the Kids Marathon and finish their ’26 Mile’ at the Chick-Fil-A Kids Marathon on May 3rd.
Students participated twice a week, starting March 4th and continued until May 1. This program brought out their Viking PRIDE in many ways. Positivity during practices and cheering on classmates, Respect for their coaches and one another, Integrity by making good choices and following the rules because there were a lot of students practicing at once, Dependability to show up with the correct clothing and water and run their hardest, and finally Empathy by being kind to everyone and realizing that every student has different abilities that shine during Kids of Steel.
Almost all of the students showed up to the kids’ marathon and finished the final mile! Each child left with a medal and a bag of goodies!
Teachers Mrs. Kim Petrina and Mrs. Kait Daley came to participate and support. Also, principal Mr. Korri Kane joined in on the festivities for race day!
