Mike Vukovcan HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP- Less than 24 hours after a difficult late-inning loss to Avonworth, the Hopewell HS Softball team was back on the field looking to put that loss behind them.
The Lady Vikings certainly did that in resounding fashion as they shutout the Beaver Falls Tigers, 13-0.

Sophomore Alana Covalt got the start for Hopewell and pitched the first shutout of her high school career going 5 innings, allowing only 3 hits, 1 walk and 5 strikeouts. In the complete game, Alana threw 76 pitches, 48 of which were strikes.

Hopewell took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and that remain the score until the Vikings scored 3 more in the 4th and then 7 runs in the 5th inning. With the win, Hopewell improved their record to 6-6.
GAME RECAP–
Top of 1st Inning: Covalt opened the game with a single, which was followed by a walk to Allison Ramaley. Next up, Victoria Mann doubled to left field, which scored both Covalt and Ramaley, Hopewell led 2-0.
Bottom of the 1st Inning: Beaver Falls threatened as they loaded the bases with 2 outs, but Covalt escaped as the inning ended on a pop up to Kara Barkovich at third base.
Bottom of the 2nd Inning: Nothing doing for the Tigers as Covalt recorded two strikeouts. Hopewell led 3-0.
Bottom of the 3rd Inning: Covalt recorded a 1-2-3 third inning following a pop-up to Tallulah Showrank in CF, a grounder to Ramaley at 2nd Base and Covalt fielded a comebacker to the mound and threw to first.
Top of the 4th Inning: Showrank led off with a single and with 1 out, Marina Pinchotti reached on a bunt single to the pitcher. Then with 2 outs, Covalt helped herself out with a 2-run single to make the score, Hopewell 5-0. Following a single by Ramaley, Mann recorded an RBI single, which scored Covalt, Hopewell now led 6-0.
Bottom of the 4th Inning: Covalt mowed Beaver Falls down in the 4th inning as she recorded 2 strikeouts. Hopewell 6-0.
Top of the 5th Inning: The Lady Vikings blew this game wide open in the 5th inning. The first run of the inning scored on an RBI single by Showrank, another scored on an RBI triple by Covalt. Following a double steal which scored Covalt, Mann drove in Ramaley with an RBI single. The final run of the game came in on an RBI single by Isabella Katkich.
Bottom of the 5th Inning: With a 13-0 lead, Covalt returned to the mound for the last inning and made quick work of BF. The first out coming on a ground to Barkovich at 3rd base, the second on a comebacker to the mound and the game ended on a popup to Katkich at SS.
