Hopewell JH Girls Basketball with Sweep Over Montour

0 101 1 minutes read

The Hopewell junior high girls’ basketball teams were back in action yesterday as they traveled to take on the Montour Spartans.

When these two programs met earlier this season, they split games with the 7th graders losing by 12 and the 8th graders winning by 11.

Thursday, both Hopewell teams came home with big victories!

The key for the 7th grade team was them getting off to a strong start, jumping out to a 26-19 lead at halftime and eventually winning by the score of 33-21.

We normally point out the leading scorers but we’re going to change things up a bit by mentioning another important aspect of the game. Congrats to Callie Sadler who led Hopewell yesterday in rebounds and blocked shots. Sadler was a big presence under the hoop, which is so important. Nice job Callie!

Looking at the box score, Rilynn Davis continued her strong season by scoring a game-high 22 points, while Isla Rock contributed 5 and Sadler, Vanessa Kurta and Nevaeh Pope each had 2.

Different opponent but same result for the Hopewell 8th grade team who overwhelmed the Spartan, 58-21. This was a total team effort as the girls worked extremely well together.

Once again, the duo of Amiyah Shell and Ellie McCoy led the way for Hopewell on the scoresheet. Shell finished with 17, McCoy with 16, while Afton Budris scored 10 points. Budris is really ending the season strong as this was her second double-digit points scoring game in the last 3.

Other Vikings to get in the box score were Arionna Shell with 7 and G’ilianna Wilcox, Dallas Boyd, Luz Jimenez and Rilynn Davis each had 2.

Notably, these were the first points scored this season by G’ilianna. She is a first-year player and has improved tremendously during the season.

The girls’ season is coming to a close. They play Central Valley at home on Monday and at Blackhawk Tuesday to end the season. Great job girls!
