Hopewell Township- This year’s Hopewell Mighty Mites are an exciting group to watch. They are coached by Jeremy Boehm, Vito Petrina, Brandon Ambrose, Matt Ambrose, and Antwine Hudgins.

Coming into Saturday’s home opener against the Blackhawk Cougars the team was 1-1.  The Viking Mighty Mites had a victorious season opener at Freedom (14-6) and a tough, hard fought on the road loss to Central Valley (14-20).

In their first game at Tony Dorsett Stadium on Saturday, Hopewell earned a convincing 35-0 win over Blackhawk.

This years team features a talented trio of quarterbacks Colton Lenart, Michael Ambrose, and Bryson Hoth. The Vikings scored from the air and on the ground with stand out plays from Emryk Cain, Wesley Gigliotti, Michael Ambrose, and Jaxon Anzur.

Linebackers Kye Hudgens, Emryk Cain, and Mike Ambrose brought intensity and shut down the Cougars run game with sophisticated blitz packages. Hudgens pulled down an interception in the 2nd quarter that almost went to the house!

Caius Kleckner also contributed to the linebacker core.  A great run blocking effort by the Vikings linemen allowed the backfield to showcase their speed and ability to exploit holes. The starting defensive line showed up strong in the 4th quarter stopping the Cougars from scoring on the one yard line.

The defense is anchored by Carson Schoefield, Colton Grundza, and Xander Garcia. Late in the game, some younger players had a chance to showcase their talent, as first year Viking Micah Lattimore scored an extra point around the right side for his first visit to the endzone.

Overall, this year’s team is cohesive, motivated,  and putting in hard work each practice. They have positive attitudes and it’s paying off on the field!
