Mike Vukovcan Congratulations to the Hopewell 5th Grade Boys travel basketball team for winning the South Side Tournament today.
After losing their two opening games on Saturday, the Vikings responded today with three consecutive wins over West Allegheny, Blackhawk and Avella in the championship game.
In the finals, Hopewell defeated Avella by the score of 22-12. Hopewell sealed the win with a 9-0 run to end the game.
Landyn Dellicarpini led Hopewell in scoring with 10 points, followed by Cooper Biller and Bowen Smith each with 4 points, while Sean Bain and Kellen Boehm each contributed a basket.
A couple of other important stats that helped win this championship: 1)Hopewell had 27 rebounds, led by Dellicarpini with 7. 2) Active Hopewell defense, 10 steals, led by Breyson Hoth with 5.
