Being less than a week away from their 2026 season opener vs. Avonworth, the Hopewell HS football team traveled this morning to bang pads against another team.
The Vikings traveled to Farrell High School to take part in a 3-team scrimmage against Farrell and Perry Traditional Academy.
In this scrimmage, the teams’ offenses had the ball for 10 plays or until they scored a touchdown. The biggest news of the day was that in their time on the field, the Hopewell 1st team defense didn’t allow a touchdown.
Obviously, scrimmages are completely different from a regular season game, with the biggest thing being quarterbacks are not permitted to be hit.
Teams are also not necessarily scripting plays and going with a certain gameplan, however these are live reps and a chance for players to make plays and impress coaches.
With that being said, here were some of the bigger plays made by Hopewell players during the scrimmage:
Hopewell’s First Offensive Drive:
-Quarterback James Armstrong with 6-yard completion to H-Back Brody Rock.
-Armstrong completed two more passes to Rock and wide receiver Avery Bokor.
-However, the drive stalled and Hopewell didn’t score
Hopewell’s First Defensive Series:
-The Vikings had two interceptions in this series that both went for touchdowns. Both safety Maddox Fattore and linebacker Avery Bokor both came up with picks for touchdowns.
Hopewell’s Second Offensive Drive:
-Hopewell’s running game was emphasized the start of this drive and took them to midfield. The duo of Nasir Wade (didn’t play today) and Tamar Tisdale should be a dynamic 1-2 punch for Hopewell and allow them to possess the ball, while also setting up the pass.
-Armstrong with a completion to wide receiver Tre Cameron moves the ball to midfield.
-Tisdale with a long run down to the Perry 20-yard line.
-Hopewell TD as Armstrong completes a 20-yard TD pass to Rock.
Hopewell’s 2nd Defensive Series:
-Senior defensive end Aris Haniotes gets to the quarterback and it’s ruled a sack. Expect a bigger season for this talented pass rusher.
-Maddox Fattore with a nice tackle for loss on a run play.
-Linebacker Evan McCable also comes up with a tackle for loss. McCabe is in the running for a starting spot in Wayne Tatalovich’s defense.
Hopewell will have Sunday off before starting preparation on Monday for Avonworth. The game on Friday will take place at Tony Dorsett Stadium with a kickoff time of 7 PM.
