The Hopewell HS Girls softball team dropped to 0-4 following a 17-5 loss on Tuesday at home to Avonworth.

The Vikings did score a season-high 5 runs and tied a season-high with 6 hits but the Avonworth lineup was just too strong.

Avonworth jumped out to an 8-1 lead before Hopewell scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 5th inning to cut the deficit to 8-4. However, the Antelopes scored 9 runs in the final two innings to ice the game.

The unfortunate thing going on is that as we’ve written a number of times, this is a young, inexperienced team and the teams the Vikings have taken on are veteran teams with a lot of talent. That’s a bad mix but it’s reality and part of competition.

Isabella Cipolla and Allison Ramaley were on the mound for Hopewell and battled. When you look at their box score, the duo only gave up 6 earned runs, which means the 11 other runs scored were unearned.

Offensively for Hopewell, Ramaley went 2 for 4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. The other hits were collected by Marina Pinchotti (double), Abigail Babinsack, Lillian Otto and Gianna Rossi.

Hopewell returns to action this Friday when they’ll host Ellwood City. First pitch from Hopewell High School is set for 4 PM.
