Mike Vukovcan HOPEWELL TOWNSHIP– The Hopewell Vikings trend of dominating the opposition continued as they opened up the WPIAL playoffs Friday night with a 62-7 win over Mount Pleasant.
Hopewell had the superior talent on both sides of the ball which led to the lopsided score. If not for the running second half clock, this score very well could’ve been in the 80’s without the Hopewell coaching staff trying to push the issue.
Next up for the Vikings will be a quarterfinal matchup on Friday against North Catholic. The location of the game, which will be at a neutral site, has yet to be announced.
Hopewell had a number of standout performers but three players that really stood out were Brody Rock on offense along with Aris Haniotes and Keith Young on defense.
Rock finished the game with 7 carries for 168 yards and 1 touchdown along with 1 catch for 19 yards and a TD. Defensively, Haniotes and Young physically dominated the defensive line of scrimmage and made it impossible for Mt. Pleasant to do anything on the ground or through the air.
