While they weren’t able to come away with the win, the Hopewell HS softball team had a very solid showing for themselves against a quality opponent.
On Wednesday, the Vikings traveled to take on West Allegheny and for a great majority of this game stood on even footing against West A.
In fact, a case can be made that they were the better team for a majority of the game, unfortunately one inning ended up costing them in a 6-0 loss. This was a scoreless game heading to the bottom of the 5th inning, which is when West A scored 4 runs, which ended up icing the game.
Looking back, the turning points in this game was the numerous missed opportunities by Hopewell to take the lead prior to that 5th inning.
HOPEWELL OPPORTUNITIES TO GRAB THE LEAD:
–2nd Inning, Hopewell had runner at 2nd with 1 out but couldn’t bring her in.
–3rd Inning, Hopewell had 2 runners on but couldn’t bring them in.
–4th Inning, Hopewell had bases loaded with 1 out and couldn’t score.
PLAYER OF THE GAME FOR HOPEWELL:
Despite the loss, a big positive from the game was the performance of Hopewell sophomore starting pitcher Ellasaundra Hartle, who was outstanding. Hartle pitched 4.1 innings, allowing 5 hits, 4 runs but none of those runs were earned. Tremendous job!
