While the 2025 high school baseball season for Hopewell didn’t turn out like anyone expected, it did have at least big bright spot.
Junior catcher Charlie Smetana worked last off-season to  Improve all aspects of his game and he certainly did that.

Hopewell softball and youth baseball is sponsored by Lisa McCoy, your neighborhood State Farm agent.
It didn’t take a baseball expert to watch Hopewell play this season and see that Smetana was Hopewell’s best player as he led the team in hits, RBI’s, OBP (.463), batting average (.321) and fielding percentage (.992).
Today that performance was recognized as Charlie received a huge honor.
Following a weeklong voting, the Beaver County Times announced this morning that Smetana was named the 2025 Beaver County Times High School Baseball 2025 Player of the Year.
Congratulations Charlie, it’s great to see when someone gets rewarded after putting in the work to succeed.
Although the high school baseball season is over, Smetana doesn’t have an off-season. Charlie will be competing with his BV Travel team and will also be competing in various talent camps.
Smetana has three offseason goals: 1) continue to improve 2) work with his teammates to return to the WPIAL Playoffs 3) earn the first of what hopefully will be many college scholarships.
