*Defense wins games—and the Hopewell U16 boys soccer team is proving that week after week this spring.

Anchored by a solid back line and standout goalkeeping, the team continues to roll through the season, racking up wins and keeping opponents off the scoreboard.

Hopewell’s defense is the backbone of their success, with Sam Wrzesniewski, James Pistorius and Parker Hoth locking down the back and a rotating crew of defenders— Nico Crivelli, Justin Dennis, Desmond Sembower and Caine Sullivan—ready to step in and shut down attacks. With Tallon Coleman commanding the goal, the team has allowed just six goals all season while racking up multiple shutouts.

Sunday’s  5-0 win was yet another showcase of that defensive strength paired with timely offense. In the first half, Nykyeron Leonora struck twice, capitalizing on assists from Wrzesniewski and Sullivan to give Hopewell a comfortable lead.

The second half saw more scoring action, with Aaden Gonzalez adding a goal and goalkeeper Tallon Coleman taking a break from his usual post to score two of his own. Assists for Coleman came from Nathan Cronin and A. Gonzalez, showing Hopewell’s depth and versatility on the field.

*Sam Holsinger and her Pittsburgh Lady Roadrunners 13U team won the Greatest Show on Turf tournament in Indiana, PA.

The girls struggled in their first 2 pool play games on Saturday but rallied for a win in the final pool game setting them up for a great run in bracket play outscoring their opponents 35-3 in tournament play including beating the top 2 seeds en route to the tournament win.

Like her teammates, Sam was at her best on Sunday batting .500 and scored 5 runs in bracket play while catching 2 of the 3 games.

Congrats girls on a great Sunday run!

*Following a successful 2025 season and a win in the WPIAL playoffs, the Hopewell Boys Volleyball team held their team banquet. Coach Hall wanted to thank everyone that helped out and attended. Best of luck to Hopewell’s lone senior Paul Thompson.

*Hopewell 9th grade basketball player Addison Blosnick and her Strick Hoops AAU basketball team finished the season by winning the  Pittsburgh AAU Super Regional Championship Tournament played at North Allegheny High School.

Blosnick’s team went undefeated over the weekend. Addison is definitely a player that could make big strides this season with Hopewell’s High School Girls basketball team.
