Vikings Sports Now wanted to put a bow on the Hopewell High School Bowling teams’ season by recapping their performance in the Western Pennsylvania Regionals.
We’ll start with sophomore Annabeth Sembower and senior Daniel Earley, who both earned the right to compete in the Western PA Girls and Boys Singles Championship. This competition was a change for the bowlers because of the 5-game sets. Normally these bowlers bowl 3-set games.
Sembower improved greatly from last season (by nearly 100 pins) in this competition as she bowled a total series of 796. Here’s the Game-by-Game Breakdown: Game 1- 209, Game 2- 126, Game 3- 157, Game 4- 131, Game 5- 173.
“I’d say that I did pretty well at both the individual and team regional events, Sembower told Vikings Sports Now. “At individuals on Friday, I had my career-high high school game of 209 pins. That was my first out of 5 games for the day, and though I couldn’t match it in any of the other games, I still got a little over average for the day. I ended up getting 44th place out of 86 bowlers. At the team regional event on Saturday, I had my high school high series so far (527 total pins). I ended up getting 14th place out of 100+ bowlers at the event. My team also did really good as well. We placed 16th out of 20 teams, which is better than I could have ever hoped for as a wild card team and the last team to make it to regionals.”
Earley took part in the Boys Singles Championship, which consisted of 81 of the top bowlers in Western Pennsylvania. At the end of the day, only the Top 12 advance to the state finals.
Earley finished with a 5-game series of 803.
In terms of the team competition on Saturday, the Lady Vikings competed against 20 of the top teams in Western Pennsylvania. This was Hopewell’s first appearance in this event since 2017.
At the end of the day, Hopewell battled hard all day and finished the event in 16th place, after coming in ranked No. 20. Brayden Mowry paced the Vikings in a sport-shot tournament with a 522 series, which placed him 50th overall in the tournament of the top 108 male bowlers.
