Monday Will Be a Busy Day in Hopewell Sports

Weather permitting, it will be busy day for the athletes at Hopewell High School as many of their spring sports teams will be in action.

A couple of these teams will have their games at the high school so if you want to get out and support them, here is what’s on the schedule for today.

HOPEWELL’S MONDAY SPORTS SCHEDULE:

*Hopewell HS Baseball will travel to take on Ambridge. First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM. It’s a section game as both teams enter with section records of 1-1.

*Hopewell JV Baseball will have Ambridge. First pitch is scheduled for 4 PM.

*Hopewell HS Softball will host North Catholic. First pitch is scheduled for 445 PM. This will be the Vikings second game of the season.

*The Hopewell Track and Field team have a meet this afternoon at Blackhawk. HC Jeff Brunton’s squad is coming off an impressive meet last week against New Castle.

Hopewell School District Now Looking for a New Superintendent

The Hopewell School District is now looking for a new superintendent following the news that Dr. Jeff Beltz is moving on.

At their most recent school board meeting, the Freedom School District approved the hiring of Beltz as the school district’s new Superintendent and Business Manager. Beltz was hired by at Hopewell in November of 2022 to replace Dr Michelle Miller, who left for South Fayette.

Beltz is receiving a 5-year deal with an annual salary of $210,000.  This hiring takes effect on December 1, 2025, and runs through November 30, 2030. This will give the Hopewell School Board time to interview and hire a new superintendent.

With the planning of construction of new school buildings, this is obviously a crucial time for the Hopewell District.

This is a homecoming for Beltz, who graduated from Freedom in 1991, and his family has strong ties to that area.

Beltz was one of the best athletes to ever graduate from Freedom High School as he was a standout in football, basketball and baseball. Beltz went on to Geneva College from 1991 to 1995, where he became the first and only two sport All-American at Geneva. Beltz set every game, season, and career receiving record after graduating from Geneva. In baseball, he was a 4-starter and two-time NAIA All-American, setting season records with career steals, triples and on-base average.

Before getting into school administration, Beltz was a coach on the Robert Morris football staff with legendary head coach Joe Walton along with serving as head football coach at Beaver.

Beltz was Freedom’s athletic director in 1999 but is now returning home to lead their school district.

In such a crucial time, the question now is where does Hopewell turn to replace Beltz?

WATCH: Hopewell High School Commencement Ceremony

Tonight will be a special evening in Hopewell as graduation ceremonies will take place.

Because of the weather, the festivities will take place in the auditorium instead of at Tony Dorsett Stadium.

This memorable evening will take place at 6:30 PM.

Because of this move, seating will be limited and tickets are needed for guaranteed entrance. Graduates were given tickets in advance in case of inclement weather.

Major Awards for the Hopewell High School Musical/Anastasia!

Last night was a huge one for the Hopewell High School Musical Team!

Sunday night at the yearly Mancini Awards held at Lincoln Park, Hopewell’s team won a couple big awards, including a major one.

Congratulations as Hopewell’s cast and crew of Anastasia won for- Best Costumes, Best Crew/Technical Execution and BEST MUSICAL!

KDKA-TV’s Mary Ours, a former 2007 Henry Mancini Award Winner for best actress was there for the award presentations.

Those are some big-time awards and are well deserved. Anyone that came to Hopewell High School over the 3-night performance of Anastasia saw how amazing those kids were.

It’s impossible to mention everyone involved and unfair to just name a few so Vikings Sports Now wants to just congratulate Hopewell’s Musical Director Celeste Beley and her entire leadership team, the entire stage crew, the entire technical crew involved and most importantly all of the very talented performers of Anastasia.

It was a special night for Hopewell High School, the community and everyone involved as this is something to truly be proud of.
