The Hopewell Track and Field team traveled to Blackhawk High School yesterday for a dual meet against the Cougars and put up some terrific early season performances.
The Hopewell Girls 4x800m relay team of Madi Inderelst, Skylar Elias, Keira Mann and Caylee Sundy got their first taste of competition and beat the Blackhawk girls in a time of 10:55 – already surpassing their best time from last year. They currently rank 4th in WPIAL AA.

Individually, Skylar Elias continued her unbeaten streak, winning both the 1600m and 3200m for the second straight meet. The girls 4x100m relay of Tessa Burgess, Harley Hample, Avery Boyd, and Maya Richburg ran their first race of the season, and despite plenty of rust, won in 51.67 seconds, which also currently ranks them 4th in WPIAL AA.TOP WPIAL GIRLS 4X100 TIMES (2026):

Boyd also won the long jump with a personal best of 15’10” leap. Burgess won the 100m hurdles, Hample got quite the workout, placing 2nd in the 400m with a personal best of 1:03.5, then winning the 200m, and leading off the 4x400m relay.

On the boys’ side, Bryce Ray won the long jump with a team leading 20’5″ jump into a stiff headwind. Nick Adams took first in the triple jump with 39’11”. Luke McGrail won the 110m hurdles, and Elijah Persi-Jones dove across the line for his first victory in the 300m hurdles.
Freshman Jacob “Taki Taki” Durkin got his first victory ever in the pole vault, with a personal best 7’6″. Jack Biega won the 800m in 2:12 and then anchored the boys 4x400m relay to victory with an exciting come from behind effort. The relay also got strong contributions from Jake Kovell, Joel Olshanski, and Aaden Gonzalez.
The Vikings return home on April 7th for a tri-meet with Beaver and Avonworth.
