Hopewell Township- Coach Ackerman’s Hopewell PGT Trucking Minor League team continued their winning ways with a 5-2 win last night over a talented Beaver Falls team.
With the win, Hopewell’s/PGT Trucking improves their record to 4-0.
Coach Ackerman got a tremendous effort from his three pitchers: Clayton Magnone, Aaron Ackerman and Logan Giering.
Magnone got the start and went 2 innings allowing just 1 earned run, while striking out 3. Ackerman pitched the third and fourth innings, allowing just 1 run and striking out 5 batters. Giering closed things out and pitched 2 scoreless innings, striking out 4.
For the game, Hopewell’s trio allowed only 3 hits and walked just 2 Beaver Falls hitters. That’s impressive!
The game was tied at 2 entering the bottom of the 5th inning when Hopewell scored 3 runs.
Lucas Strano led off the inning with a single to center field. Next batter, Magnone doubled to bring in Strano, Hopewell led 3-2.
Ackerman then walked and Giering was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With 2 outs, Jacen Zito came through with a clutch 2-out single to bring in Magnone. Hopewell now led 4-2. Next batter, Elias Swenson drew a bases loaded walk to bring in Ackerman.
Next up for Hopewell’s PGT Trucking is an away game on Monday at South Side.
