However, the thing about sports is that anything can happen on any given day and today was an example of that. As hot as Hopewell’s bats were recently, they were that cold today as Hampton gave up just 1 hit and came away with a 5-2 win.

Despite collecting just 1-hit, Hopewell held a 2-1 lead heading into the top of the sixth inning. Hampton went on to score 2 runs with 2 outs to take a 3-2 lead and tacked on 2 more runs in the final frame to ice the game.

Hopewell’s lone hit today was produced by senior Drew Donovan.

Senior left-hander Ben McDonald got the start and pitched a complete game, going 7 innings, allowing 6 hits, 5 runs (only 2 earned runs) and struck out 8 batters. Hopewell’s defense wasn’t sharp as they committed 3 errors, which led to 3 earned runs.

Elsewhere in the section, 2nd place Blackhawk defeated Ambridge, 5-4, while Central Valley defeated North Catholic, 8-7 in 8 innings.

CLASS 4A/SECTION 1:
Beaver: 6-2
Blackhawk: 5-2
Hopewell: 4-3
Ambridge: 4-5
Hampton: 4-5
Central Valley: 2-5

Hopewell will try and split the series with Hampton as they’ll face each other against tomorrow. First pitch from Hampton High School will take place at 4 PM.

Senior right-hander Kington Krotec will get the start in yet another very important game for the Vikings.
