News and Notes in Hopewell Boys and Girls Athletics (May 10th/11th)

0 401 3 minutes read

It’s that time of the season where our athletes in Hopewell are involved in more than just school sports.

In an attempt to not only be active but to get better, boys and girls in Hopewell are taking part in travel leagues, AAU leagues and others.

Vikings Sports Now wants to recognize thema and let you know about their accomplishments so at least once a week, we’ll post their accomplishments.

We posted this on Facebook, but if you’d like to send us information/pictures of your child, please do so by sending it on Facebook or you can text me, 724-462-5756.

*Nice job Hopewell 8th grader Lillian Otto for winning a championship! Otto and her 14U travel softball team,  Athletix, won the ‘Choose Joy Championship’ played over the weekend at McCune Fields in Canfield, Ohio. Lillian and her team were busy as they played and won all 3 pool games on Saturday. Then on Sunday, they played and won all 4 bracket games to win the championship.

Otto was raking at the plate as she batted .533 for the weekend with 9 RBI.

*The Hopewell U17 Soccer team clinched second place with a 2-1 win over Hampton. Hampton took a 1-0 lead early in the game, but Hopewell responded thanks to a beautiful goal from Aaden Gonzalez. Nico Crivelli connected with Gonzalez with a perfect pass and that Gonzalez went to work, as he dribbled through a couple defenders before burying the goal.

The game remained tie into the second half thanks to strong play from Hopewell goaltender Tallon Coleman. Hopewell then got the game-winning goal from Nykyeron Leonora, who scored on a free kick, after getting fouled. Nice job Hopewell!

*Hopewell’s Declan Lavia had a very successful weekend with the LBC (Liberatore Baseball Club) 10U Travel Baseball team. Lavia and his teammates went 4-0-1 over the weekend and won the Showdown in the Mountains in Bridgeport, West Virginia.

*Hopewell girls freshman basketball player Addison Blosnick continues to work on her game throughout the spring. Addison is a member of the Strick Hoops AAU Basketball team and this weekend, they went 4-0, winning the Gold Championship in the Drill for Skills East Ohio Tournament. Blosnick’s team has played in 4 tournaments this spring and have one more left this coming weekend. Blosnick received considerable playing time and a number of starts this past season for Jeff Homziak and the Hopewell HS Girls Basketball team.
