Mike Vukovcan More recognition for the Hopewell Vikings HS football program following their Week One win over Avonworth.
Every week during the WPIAL High School football season, the Pittsburgh Steelers name a High School Coach of the Week.
Following Hopewell’s 34-14 win over previously No. 1 ranked Avonworth, the Steelers have recognized Mottes as their Coach of the Week.
Aside from the recognition, the Hopewell HS football program will receive $1,000 and Mottes will be publicly recognized at the Steelers game against the Cincinnati Bengals on September 27th.
“This award is awesome, but the credit should go to my assistant coaches,” Mottes tells Vikings Sports Now. “They do all of the hard work, and they have these kids ready to play football on Friday nights.”
This is just the latest news coming as a result of that big win. Hopewell is now the No. 1 ranked team in Class 3A by at least 3 Pittsburgh media outlets and PA Football News have named the Vikings as their No. 1 ranked team in the state of Pennsylvania.
Mottes and Hopewell will have their first road test of the 2026 season on Friday when they travel to Chartiers Valley.
