Vikings Sports Now wants to update you on the journey of Hopewell 12-year-old Zoe Scully as she continues to compete in the sport of karate.
Our last update on Scully was back in April when he took part in the Young’s Spring Karate Tournament in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania.
Scully competed in the Staff Weapons, Hand Patterson (Kata), sparring and board breaking competitions. In those events in which she competed against 12 and 13-year-old male and females, Scully finished in 1st in Sparring, 2nd in Staff weapons, 3rd in Hands Patteson and 4th in Board Breaking.
From that, Scully continued to train throughout the summer and over the weekend, she competed at the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg in the Summer Shiai tournament.
Scully once again did extremely well. Going up against extremely tough competition and sustaining a bruised diaphragm, a black eye and a hard kick to the stomach, Scully toughed it out and finished in 2nd place!

In her two matches which last 2 minutes a piece, Scully collected 18 total points (11 points in the 1st match and 7 in the 2nd match, which was against the reigning champion). The 2nd match came all the way down to a sudden death point.
Way to go Zoe!!
Over the next month, Scully is going to rest and heal up but also continue to train as she’ll get ready for her next tournament on September 12th in Hollidaysburg.
